Role overview

As a Breathing Apparatus Trainer, you will play a vital role in delivering hands‑on, safety‑critical training that supports the operational readiness of London's frontline fire crews. This is an opportunity to help learners develop essential skills, build confidence, and contribute to safer communities.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities include the following:

  • Delivering core firefighter skills training, including Breathing Apparatus and Level 3 apprenticeship modules.
  • Assessing learner performance and providing constructive feedback to support progression.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment following Fit to Train, safety and welfare policies.
  • Managing learner welfare issues and escalating concerns via established safeguarding procedures.
  • Ensuring training resources and equipment are suitable and raising any issues with senior colleagues.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

This is a full‑time, onsite role working 37.5 hours per week based at Park Royal, near London. You will be working Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends.

Essential experience
  • Training or assessing qualification at Level 3 or above (can be obtained through Babcock).
  • Experience teaching, coaching, assessing or presenting to groups of adults (desirable).
  • Fire related background or operational experience (advantageous).
  • A passion for training, with an adaptable and engaging approach.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
