Birkbeck, University of London is looking for an Associate Lecturer to support the Business School for the academic year 2026.
Module Details- Learning and Employee Development
- 1.5 hours of teaching per week for 9 weeks
- Autumn Term teaching starts w/c 5 October 2026
- Produce pre‑recorded lectures to refresh existing content – up to an hour of recording each week, paid at £27.87 per hour
As Associate Lecturer you will support students’ academic development by teaching the ‘Learning and Employee Development’ module, an undergraduate module designed to provide students with theoretical and applied knowledge on employees’ learning and development within organisations.
You will guide students in developing their critical evaluation of key theories and the practitioner’s perspective, and their critical writing skills based on a case study. You will also help them build confidence and capability in engaging with an evidence‑based approach to designing learning interventions and employees’ training and development needs.
Qualifications• Knowledge of academic writing and presentation skills (literature research, argument development, critical thinking and discussion) and experience of teaching and supporting students in relevant courses.
• Qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional / industry level experience).
Person Specification- At least a master’s degree in business and management / psychology related subjects or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Experience in teaching and supporting students in a seminar context involving small group activities, class discussions and preparation for group and individual assessments.
- Experience in recording lecture content using the Panopto platform, and in refreshing lecture content to support students’ learning on a module.
- Experience in teaching, or have knowledge of, key topics and theories relating to Learning and Development.
- Experience in assessing student learning, which for this module will be a coursework report of 1,500 words based on a provided Learning and Development case study. Students will also submit a pre‑recorded 5–7 minute presentation that is L&D practitioner focused based on their individual coursework report.
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro‑rated London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
