About the Role

The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences (SPCS) is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow who will join Queen Mary School Hainan (QMSH), QMUL’s latest transnational education partnership in PR China.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching through teaching and the assessment of student achievement, managing the surrounding student support through e.g. feedback, contributing to the design of modules and their assessment and contributing to relevant administrative tasks relevant to QMSH modules or programmes. This post is based in London, and the postholder will be required to travel to China to deliver teaching, as allocated by the Director of the joint programme.

The postholder will be required to travel to China to deliver teaching for periods of approximately 2-4 weeks, with 4-6 trips being expected.

About You

You should have a PhD in either Physics, Maths, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or related fields. Having excellent subject knowledge and demonstrable ability to deliver teaching, you should be able to design, develop and deliver high-quality teaching and assessment in the following areas: real-time systems, digital signal processing and programming for data science.

About the School

SPCS is a large, multidisciplinary and research-intensive school within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. While it is built around the core disciplines of Physics, Astronomy, and Chemistry, it also incorporates data science, reflecting a growing emphasis on computational and data-driven approaches across science.

SPCS has a diverse and active community, with over 900 undergraduate students, more than 100 postgraduate taught students, around 115postgraduate researchers, and approximately 150 academic and professional staff. It fosters a highly collaborative culture, working across faculties and with industry partners and external stakeholders.

SPCS is primarily based at the Mile End campus that includes advanced laboratories, workshops, shared study and social spaces. Teaching is also delivered at the London City Institute of Technology and internationally in partnership with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in Hainan, China.
