Position Title: MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Coordinator
Reports To: Superintendent or Director of Curriculum and Instruction/Building Principal
Location: Advanced Technology Academy
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Work Calendar: 12-Month (or as assigned)
The MTSS Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across the district or assigned schools. This position provides leadership in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support systems to ensure all students receive high-quality instruction and interventions based on data-driven decision making.
The MTSS Coordinator collaborates with administrators, teachers, interventionists, special education staff, counselors, and families to improve student outcomes through evidence-based practices aligned with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) guidance and district initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Program Coordination- Lead district and/or building implementation of the MTSS framework.
- Develop and monitor MTSS procedures, timelines, and implementation plans.
- Facilitate MTSS leadership team meetings and support school-based MTSS teams.
- Ensure fidelity of Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III instructional and behavioral supports.
- Promote equitable access to interventions for all students.
- Coordinate district initiatives related to MTSS, PBIS, school improvement, and student achievement.
- Coordinate universal screening processes for academics, behavior, and attendance.
- Analyze student achievement and behavioral data to identify trends and areas of need.
- Support staff in interpreting assessment data and selecting appropriate interventions.
- Monitor intervention effectiveness through progress-monitoring tools.
- Prepare reports for district leadership, school improvement teams, and the Board of Education as requested.
- Design and deliver professional learning on MTSS practices, intervention strategies, data analysis, progress monitoring, and instructional best practices.
- Coach teachers and intervention staff in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Coordinate intervention services for students requiring Tier II and Tier III supports.
- Collaborate with general education, special education, English Learner, counseling, and behavioral health staff.
- Participate in Student Assistance Teams (SAT), Child Study Teams, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when appropriate.
- Ensure interventions are documented and monitored according to district procedures.
- Serve as a liaison between school staff, families, and community agencies regarding intervention supports.
- Collaborate with principals to ensure consistent implementation across buildings.
- Work with instructional coaches, curriculum leaders, school psychologists, and social workers to align student support systems.
- Assist with district school improvement planning related to MTSS implementation.
- Ensure MTSS practices align with Michigan Department of Education guidance and applicable federal and state laws.
- Maintain accurate documentation of intervention plans and student progress.
- Assist with audits, compliance reviews, and program evaluations.
- Stay current on research and best practices related to MTSS, literacy, mathematics, behavior supports, and intervention programming.
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, School Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing MTSS, Response to Intervention (RtI), PBIS, or related intervention frameworks.
- Knowledge of Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) and school improvement practices.
- Experience using student assessment and progress monitoring systems.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
