Job Title:
Learning Support Assistant (Further Education)
Location:Further Education College
Salary:£18-£23 per hour (PAYE)
Working Pattern:Monday to Friday (Term-Time)
Job Purpose:To provide academic and in-class support to students with additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum, stay engaged in lessons, and achieve their learning goals. This role focuses on educational support only and does not involve personal care
.
Classroom Support
- Support students within lessons to understand tasks and instructions.
- Assist lecturers in delivering inclusive and engaging sessions.
- Help adapt materials to meet individual learning needs.
- Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
- Support literacy, numeracy, and coursework completion.
- Encourage independent learning and problem-solving skills.
- Promote active participation and positive behaviour in the classroom.
- Build confidence, motivation, and self-esteem in learners.
- Support students in staying focused and organised.
- Assist students with a range of needs (e.g., autism, ADHD).
- Follow EHCP targets and support strategies where applicable.
- Provide feedback on student progress to teaching staff.
- Work closely with lecturers, SENCO, and the Learning Support team.
- Attend meetings and training sessions when required.
- No personal care (toileting, feeding, hygiene support)
- No medical or clinical duties
- No manual handling responsibilities
Essential:
- Experience supporting learners in education (school or FE setting)
- Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach
- Experience in a Further Education college
- Knowledge of EHCPs
- Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or
3)
