Position: Lecturer – Inclusive Learning (ASD and Behaviours of Concern)

Overview

Here at Merton College, we are seeking a Lecturer to provide tutorial and pastoral care for a group or groups of learners with learning disabilities/difficulties and to monitor work experience activities. You will act as a Course Leader and take responsibility for their study programme, engage in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation, and contribute to curriculum planning and product development.

The role involves embedding mathematics and English to SEND to support the College’s strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

The position requires holding a teaching qualification, a relevant professional qualification, and experience working with and understanding the needs of SEND learners. You will be part of a team, knowledgeable about current curriculum changes and the implications for SEND learning strategies and reforms.

Responsibilities include managing students with challenging behaviour, teaching and communicating at a level appropriate to the varied learning abilities, applying the accreditation framework and assessment strategies in the post‑16 sector (incl. RARPA), and utilizing information and assistive technology in teaching. Experience working with external agencies, assessment and/or IV practices, and specialist accreditation is also required.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Teaching qualification and a relevant professional qualification
  • Experience working with learners with learning disabilities/difficulties (SEND)
  • Knowledge of SEND curriculum changes, and experience developing curriculum to meet the demands of the Further Education Sector
  • Understanding of the accreditation framework, assessment strategies, and application of RARPA
  • Experience in using information technology and assistive technology to support learning
  • Experience with external agencies and assessment or IV practices for specialist accreditation
