Position: Lecturer in Computing (BTEC - HND, Grants Hill )

Purpose of the job

The Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Pearson BTEC Higher National Computing programmes. The postholder will contribute to an inclusive, engaging and student-centred learning environment that promotes student success, academic achievement, employability, retention and positive outcomes. The role includes curriculum delivery, assessment, academic support, quality assurance and participation in programme development in accordance with Nelson College London policies, Pearson Higher National requirements, and relevant UK Higher Education quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials
  • Deliver teaching using a range of appropriate face-to-face, blended and digital learning methods
  • Create engaging learning resources and teaching materials that support student achievement
  • Differentiate teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes equality, diversity and student engagement
  • Encourage independent learning, critical thinking and professional practice
  • Monitor student attendance, engagement and academic progress
  • Maintain accurate teaching records in accordance with college procedures
  • Participate in module evaluation and continuous curriculum enhancement
  • Assessment and Feedback

  • Design, prepare and deliver assessments in accordance with Pearson Higher National programme requirements
  • Mark assessments fairly, consistently and within published deadlines
  • Provide timely, constructive and developmental feedback to students
  • Participate in internal verification, moderation and standardisation activities
  • Maintain accurate assessment and achievement records
  • Support students in understanding assessment requirements and academic expectations
  • Promote academic integrity and identify potential academic misconduct in accordance with college policies
  • Participate in External Examiner and Pearson quality processes where required
  • Person Specification Essential Qualifications
    • Master's degree in Computing, Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related discipline
    • A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to achieve one within an agreed timeframe
    • Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA) or willingness to work towards Fellowship.
    Desirable Qualifications
    • Doctorate (PhD or Professional Doctorate) in a relevant discipline.
    • Professional certifications relevant to Computing (e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, AWS, CompTIA, Oracle).
    Desirable Experience
    • Experience of teaching within Higher Education, Further Education or professional education.
    • Experience of delivering Pearson BTEC Higher National programmes or equivalent higher education qualifications.
    • Experience of developing teaching materials and learning resources.
    • Experience of marking and providing constructive assessment feedback.
    • Experience of using Virtual Learning Environments (e.g. Moodle) and Microsoft 365 applications.
    • Experience of supporting students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
    Knowledge

    The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of one or more of the following subject areas:

    • Programming
    • Software Development
    • Database Design and Development
    • Networking
    • Cyber Security
    • Cloud Computing
    • Web Development
    • Data Analytics
    • Systems Analysis and Design
    • Artificial Intelligence (where applicable)

    A sound understanding of Higher Education quality assurance processes and Pearson BTEC Higher National requirements is desirable.

    £35 to £40 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)
