About usUCL is at an interesting point in its history. We have expanded rapidly, and the new strategic planning process is focussed on building on achievements and opportunities from growth while also addressing some of the challenges.
The UCL Strategic Plan outlines a vision for a ‘futures focussed’ UCL education that is ambitious and distinctive. It prompts us to view UCL education and student experience through the lens of current and future students to ensure we are able to meet their needs and expectations. It also recognises that ‘the future’ is not a given. Instead, different futures are there to be influenced and shaped by UCL students, staff and graduates through our teaching and research.
One of the aims of the Strategic Plan is to bring together teaching, assessment and employability in order to support student futures and to that end, the new ‘UCL Higher Education Development & Support Institute’ (HEDS) has been established. HEDS brings together UCL Arena (UCL’s Centre for Research-based Education) and UCL Careers Service. HEDS sits within the Office of the Vice Provost (Education & Student Experience) (VPESE).
Aboutthe role
The role holder will work directly with the Work Related Learning Manager for the BEAMS faculty cluster (Built Environment, Engineering, Maths & Physical Sciences) to provide practical activities for the students to enhance their careers education and prepare them for the world of work. The role holder is expected to support the Manager in identifying what provision is required within the faculties, to complement existing student support.
The role holder will engage with relevant academic staff, recruiters, alumni and other professional bodies, to run activities for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students across the faculties. Such activities could include industry forums, career taster or skills workshops, hackathons, challenges, work-shadowing opportunities and collaborative projects with other UCL departments.

The role holder will be expected to encourage student engagement through developing marketing materials and carrying out promotional activities.
Throughout their work, the role holder will work closely with other members of the BEAMS Careers team to coordinate delivery of specific faculty and departmental activities. The role holder will also liaise with the Work-related Learning Officers in the other faculties, as well as colleagues within UCL Careers in order to share best practice and ensure consistency of standard across UCL.
