Pay: £92.60 to £110 per day

A specialist and highly regarded primary setting for deaf children and young people in Haringey is seeking a skilled BSL Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from April through to the end of the academic year.

The Role

You will provide focused 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil who is profoundly deaf and uses British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary form of communication, ensuring they can fully access learning and participate in all aspects of school life.

In addition, you will support across the wider Year 2 cohort, assisting with lessons, delivering targeted interventions, and contributing to a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

A key part of the role will involve promoting deaf awareness across the school, supporting both staff and pupils in developing inclusive communication strategies and ensuring full accessibility.

The School is Looking For
  • BSL Level 3 or Level 4 qualification (or higher) – essential
  • Fluency in British Sign Language and confidence supporting BSL users
  • Experience working with deaf pupils or within a SEND setting
  • A calm, patient, and clear communication style
  • Confidence promoting inclusive practice and deaf awareness
  • A proactive and collaborative approach
About the School

This well-established specialist provision supports deaf children and young people from early years through to further education. The school is recognised for its inclusive and nurturing environment, where communication is at the heart of learning. Staff are highly experienced in supporting pupils with a range of needs, using a combination of British Sign Language (BSL), spoken English, and other communication approaches to ensure every child can thrive.

The school places a strong emphasis on developing independence, confidence, and life skills, alongside academic achievement. With a collaborative and supportive staff team, it offers a positive working environment and a strong commitment to inclusion, equality, and pupil wellbeing.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a specialist setting where your skills will have a direct and meaningful impact on pupils’ learning and development.

If you have the required BSL qualifications and relevant experience, we would love to hear from you.

We have a policy to respond to all applications within three working days. However, because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to reply to individual enquiries. If we have not contacted you within this specified time your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
