Are you a passionate English tutor looking for a rewarding role where your teaching can make a genuine difference?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Functional Skills English Tutor to deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 within a prison education environment. This is an opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them develop essential literacy skills, gain recognised qualifications, and build confidence for their future.

As a Functional Skills English Tutor, you will deliver engaging, inclusive, and learner-focused sessions to groups of up to 12 learners. Working with individuals from a wide range of educational backgrounds and abilities, you will adapt your teaching approach to ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed.

You will be responsible for:

• Delivering Functional Skills English qualifications from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.
• Conducting initial assessments and using diagnostic tools to identify starting points and learning needs.
• Creating and maintaining Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Planning and delivering engaging lessons that support progression and achievement.
• Motivating learners and building confidence through positive learning experiences.
• Supporting learners with additional learning needs and implementing reasonable adjustments where required.
• Monitoring progress and preparing learners for examinations and assessments.
• Promoting literacy, reading for pleasure, and lifelong learning.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and prison staff to achieve positive learner outcomes.
• Maintaining accurate learner records and meeting quality assurance requirements.

We are looking for a committed and inspiring educator who believes in the power of learning to change lives.

• Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
• Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
• Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate learners with diverse needs and backgrounds.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and learner success.
• Experience with in prison education, adult learning, or further education settings.
• Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic and assessment tools.
• Knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
• Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification, or willingness to work towards achieving one.
