About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school in East London, providing targeted support to students who require additional help with literacy, reading, spelling and phonics-based learning.
The ideal candidate will have experience using Lexonics or similar structured literacy programmes and will be confident supporting students who may have gaps in their literacy skills, including students with SEND.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one and small-group literacy support to students.
* Deliver structured Lexonics/phonics-based interventions in line with students' individual needs.
* Support students with reading, spelling, phonics, vocabulary and comprehension.
* Work with teachers and the SEN team to identify and address individual learning needs.
* Adapt activities and resources to ensure students can access learning effectively.
* Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to teaching and SEN staff.
* Encourage students to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.
* Support students within the classroom and during targeted intervention sessions.
* Maintain accurate records of interventions and student progress where required.
* Follow safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies at all times.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience using Lexonics or a similar structured literacy/phonics programme.
* Experience supporting children or young people with literacy difficulties.
* A patient, encouraging and nurturing approach.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build positive relationships with students.
* Confidence delivering one-to-one and small-group interventions.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a wider teaching and SEN team.
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
* Experience working within a secondary school setting.
* Experience supporting students with SEND, dyslexia or specific learning difficulties.
* Relevant Teaching Assistant, literacy or SEND qualifications.
* Experience delivering structured phonics or literacy interventions.
