We are seeking an Inclusive Fieldwork Advisor to help improve the experience of neurodivergent and disabled students participating in fieldwork within the School of Natural Sciences.

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Inclusive Fieldwork Advisor to help improve the experience of neurodivergent and disabled students participating in fieldwork within the School of Natural Sciences.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping ensure that all neurodivergent and other disabled students can fully engage with, participate in and benefit from field-based learning experiences.

We are therefore seeking an Inclusive Fieldwork Advisor to work on a part-time (21 hours a week), 18 month, fixed term contract.

You will work with students and staff to understand the challenges, advise on solutions, and develop a suite of resources which can be used into the future. As part of your responsibilities, you will also be tasked to deliver and prepare teaching materials for students and staff.

As the Inclusive Fieldwork Advisor, you will:

  • Investigate and better understand the experiences of neurodivergent and disabled students undertaking fieldwork.
  • Design processes, tools and resources that support inclusive and accessible fieldwork participation.
  • Deliver support to students and training for academic staff.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Support & Wellbeing colleagues to understand and strengthen the support available to students.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about inclusion and accessibility and can work collaboratively to bring about positive change.

You will have:

  • An understanding of the challenges disabled students may experience when undertaking fieldwork in a higher education setting and/or experience of working with neurodivergent/ disabled adults.
  • Experience of gathering stakeholder feedback and using evidence to inform decision-making.
  • The ability to develop and deliver engaging training and support materials.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate decisions and actions to differing groups.

Salary and benefits

Actual £26,548 rising to £30,227 per annum (0.6 FTE pro-rated £44,247 to £50,379),Grade 7 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

Contract
