About the jobThe purpose of this role is to lead and manage the Child Pedestrian and Streetwise Team, driving continuous improvement in the design and delivery of training programmes. This includes developing and enhancing lesson plans, educational resources, and learning materials for schools. The postholder will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supporting, and delivering high-quality Streetwise and Child Pedestrian Training to children across Cardiff, ensuring engaging, effective, and consistent learning experiences.
Streetwise
- The training is predominantly delivered to year 6 pupils during the school day.
- This is currently delivered by 2 members of staff working together at each school.
- The training involves an interactive presentation to a class of year 6 pupils within their school, followed by practical training in small groups on roads near to their school.
Child Pedestrian Training
- The training is predominantly delivered to year 2 pupils during the school day.
- This is currently delivered by 2 members of staff working together at each school.
- The training involves an interactive presentation to a class of year 2 pupils within their school, followed by practical training in small groups on roads near to their school.
- Where possible, we also carry out a shorter interactive presentation with year 1 pupils.
This post is part funded by Welsh Government and is 22 hours per week, split over 3 days during term time. The training takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The post holder will also assist the Road Safety Team with other initiatives when needed.
What We Are Looking For From YouWe are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience of working with children and young people in a training, teaching or educational setting. You will be an effective communicator with strong organisational skills, capable of leading and developing staff, creating engaging learning resources, and building positive relationships with schools and partners. Most importantly, you will be committed to improving road safety education and delivering high-quality services for the children of Cardiff.
This role is part-time at 22 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part-time hours and weeks worked.
Appointment to this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Child Workforce Barred List check.
