An exciting opportunity is available for a caring and resilient SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Redbridge from September 2026.

This role would suit someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships with pupils and understands that every child needs a different approach. You'll provide practical and emotional support to pupils who may experience additional needs, social and emotional difficulties or challenges with behaviour and engagement.

The position will run for the full academic year, giving you the opportunity to develop valuable experience supporting children with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.

Your Role
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Helping children manage emotions, behaviour and social situations
  • Encouraging pupils to engage positively with their learning
  • Supporting individual behaviour and learning strategies
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and self-regulation
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff
  • Building positive relationships based on trust, patience and consistency
  • Contributing to a calm, safe and inclusive classroom
Who Would Suit This Role?
  • Have previous experience supporting children, particularly within a school or educational setting
  • Have an interest in SEN, SEMH, behaviour or pastoral support
  • Are patient, understanding and emotionally resilient
  • Can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations
  • Have a natural ability to build rapport with children
  • Are confident working one-to-one and in small groups
  • Can work effectively alongside teachers and other professionals
  • Are enthusiastic about helping children overcome obstacles and succeed
