MEFs will predominantly work with students at the Guys and King's campuses but will also, where possible, support KCL educational teaching partner sites. They will be encouraged to develop their pedagogical skills by applying to study on KCL's Certificate in Clinical Education, with a proportion of the fee provided. Each MEF will be encouraged to develop an educational portfolio and will be mentored across the domains of teaching and learning, assessment, student support, curriculum design, quality assurance, and leadership, with encouragement to undertake pedagogical research aligned to growing themes of educational activity within GKT.

The role is offered as 0.2

FTE standalone KCL appointment for 12 months and is then reviewed for a possible extension of a further 12-24 months. This is a part time post (8 hours per week), and you will be offered an fixed term contract until 16 August 2027.

GKT Medical Education Fellows (MEFs) are licensed doctors with lived experience of undergraduate medical education and an early track record of high-quality postgraduate medical education. They work with the central MBBS education team to design, create, and deliver high-quality educational initiatives that improve student learning and experience across the GKT MBBS programme.

Essential Criteria
  • Primary medical qualification /
  • Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) with licence to practice
  • Active participation in clinical and educational CPD, including Equality and Diversity Training (through NHS or University processes) and full and satisfactory annual appraisal / ARCP
  • Understanding of the role of regulators in health education (GMC, HEE)
  • Skills in developing teaching opportunities responsive to the wishes and aspirations of clinical medical students as well as understanding of Undergraduate
  • Practical experience in undergraduate medical education and Experience of giving high-quality constructive feedback to students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of clinical and academic colleagues as well as students and the Academic Centre to enhance outcome and evaluation
  • Ability to problem-solve and achieve desired results in a healthcare or educational setting
  • High-level of oral and written communications skills and working effectively within an educational team
Desirable Criteria
  • (A)
    FHEA or equivalent
  • Experience in pedagogical research or scholarship
  • Experience and understanding of undergraduate medical education at KCL
