£38,976 – £47,229 per annum (pro rata)

As a Careers and Employment Advisor, you will empower adult learners to recognise their potential, build confidence and take purposeful steps towards employment or progression in a competitive job market. Working within Wandsworth Council Lifelong Learning, you will provide tailored information, advice and guidance, helping learners identify suitable career pathways, develop employability skills and overcome barriers to work.

You will manage a caseload of learners, develop individual action plans and work collaboratively with tutors, colleagues and employers to create meaningful opportunities that lead to employment, further learning, volunteering or other positive destinations.

About the role

In this varied role, you will work directly with adult learners, tutors, colleagues, employers, community groups and partner organisations to support progression into employment, further learning or other positive destinations. You will:

  • Provide high-quality, learner-centred information, advice and guidance to adults progressing towards employment, further learning or improved work readiness.
  • Work with learners to identify career goals, barriers to employment and agreed next steps through individual action plans.
  • Support learners with CV preparation, job applications, interview preparation, job-search techniques and confidence building.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employers to identify vacancies, work-related opportunities and progression routes.
  • Match suitable learners to vacancies and opportunities, taking account of their skills, interests and readiness.
  • Maintain accurate enrolment, eligibility, learner records and progression evidence in line with service requirements.
  • Engage new learners through outreach, referrals, events and partnership activity, promoting Lifelong Learning programmes to community groups, council services and partner organisations.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Experience of :
  • Delivering employability support to adults, including job applications, CV writing, interview preparation and confidence building.
  • Providing advice and guidance to adults and supporting progression into employment.
  • Working with employers, developing effective relationships and signposting or matching candidates to suitable employment opportunities.
  • Delivering one-to-one support sessions, workshops or group activities linked to employability, progression or careers development.
Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with learners, employers and partner organisations.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork, partnership working and service development, with a commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
