About the Role

Teach Now is recruiting a thoughtful and academically ambitious Sociology Teacher for a secondary school in Hertfordshire. This opportunity would suit a teacher who enjoys encouraging students to question assumptions, evaluate evidence and understand the social forces that shape contemporary life. The successful candidate will primarily teach Sociology at KS4 and/or KS5, depending on the school timetable and their experience. You will support students in developing confident essay-writing, evaluation and research skills while preparing examination groups thoroughly for their assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging Sociology lessons.
  • Develop students' ability to analyse theories, evidence and contemporary social issues.
  • Strengthen academic writing and extended-response skills.
  • Prepare GCSE and/or A-Level students for external examinations.
  • Use assessment effectively to identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide clear feedback that helps students develop stronger arguments.
  • Encourage respectful and thoughtful classroom discussion.
  • Contribute to the wider Humanities or Social Sciences department.
Requirements
  • QTS.
  • Degree in Sociology or a closely related Social Science subject.
  • Experience teaching Sociology within a secondary or sixth-form setting.
  • Strong knowledge of GCSE and/or A-Level Sociology.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and academic literacy.
  • Ability to facilitate sensitive discussions appropriately and professionally.
  • Strong classroom-management skills.

Salary will be determined according to experience, qualifications and position on the appropriate pay scale.
