We are now looking for an Academic Lead with deep expertise in Physics and/or Engineering to take ownership of students in this stream, strengthen our subject curriculum and tutor team, and provide high-level academic and admissions guidance for students targeting the most competitive Physics, Engineering and related degree programmes.
Role OverviewThe Academic Lead
- Physics & Engineering combines outstanding subject teaching with academic leadership, university admissions expertise and student portfolio ownership. You will work with ambitious students across Physics, Engineering and related physical-science pathways, helping them build strong subject mastery, intellectual depth and competitive university applications.
You will manage a portfolio of students, lead and support Physics/Engineering tutors, shape subject-specific curriculum and enrichment, and act as a trusted academic adviser to students and families. The role is particularly suited to a high-calibre Physics, Engineering or Natural Sciences graduate who enjoys teaching but also wants broader responsibility for programme quality, people leadership and student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities 1. Physics & Engineering Teaching and Academic GuidanceDeliver rigorous, analytical and student-centred teaching in Physics and, where appropriate, Engineering-related quantitative topics.
Support students from GCSE/IGCSE and A Level/IB through to advanced pre-university work, depending on individual student needs and the candidate’s expertise.
Help high-achieving students develop the mathematical fluency, physical intuition, modelling skills and problem-solving depth expected by highly selective universities.
Provide targeted preparation for competitive Physics and Engineering admissions, including relevant admissions assessments (for example ESAT where applicable), technical interviews, problem-solving discussions and subject exploration.
Guide students in developing super-curricular depth through advanced reading, projects, competitions, research-style exploration and wider engagement with Physics and Engineering.
Diagnose student strengths and gaps and create structured, measurable learning plans that drive academic progress.
Take academic ownership of a portfolio of students within the Physics/Engineering stream, ensuring each student has clear academic objectives and an appropriate progression plan.
Advise on subject choices, academic priorities and longer‑term pathways for students considering Physics, Engineering, Natural Sciences and related quantitative degrees.
Track student performance, engagement, tutor feedback and admissions milestones, intervening early where additional support is required.
Prepare clear progress updates and academic recommendations for students, parents and internal colleagues.
Coordinate with tutors and student‑facing teams so that teaching, admissions preparation and wider academic development are joined up.
Contribute to student retention and satisfaction through responsive communication, strong academic judgement and consistently high standards.
