Are you an experienced trade professional with a background in carpentry and property maintenance ready to inspire the next generation? We are partnering with a leading Further Education college group in South East London to find a passionate Skills Coach and Lecturer. This role offers a split pattern: teaching Property Maintenance Operations two days a week in the classroom/workshop, and spending three days coaching and assessing Carpentry apprentices across local workplace settings.
It is a fantastic opportunity to step out of full-time site work, pass on your craft, and build a rewarding career in education.
Our partner setting is a successful, multi-campus Further Education provider situated across South East London. Known for its strong industry links and modern workshop facilities, the college is dedicated to raising aspirations and delivering practical, career-focused learning. Staff benefit from a highly collaborative environment, continuous professional development, and access to supportive leadership.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- * Teach Property Maintenance Operations (PMO) apprentices two days per week, delivering engaging classroom and workshop lessons.
- * Act as a Carpentry Skills Coach three days per week, managing a caseload of apprentices across workplace sites, college campuses, and remote learning environments.
- * Conduct initial assessments, construct Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and track learner progress towards End-Point Assessment (EPA) gateways.
- * Provide dynamic assessments, constructive feedback, and regular progress reviews to ensure apprentices reach full occupational competence.
- * Work closely with employers, line managers, and Internal Quality Assurers (IQAs) to coordinate training opportunities and ensure timely completions.
- * Mentor learners who face individual barriers to learning, guiding them through both on-the-job and off-the-job requirements.
- * Qualifications &
Experience:
Level 3 vocational qualification in Carpentry or Property Maintenance, at least 5 years of current industry experience, and Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or equivalent) literacy and numeracy. A recognised teaching qualification (PTTLS minimum) or assessing award (TAQA/A1/D32/D33) is desirable, but a willingness to work towards them is welcomed. - * Characteristics:
Strong communication skills, excellent administrative habits for accurate record-keeping, and an encouraging approach to mentoring diverse learners. - * Transport & Commute: A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for traveling between workplace sites and college campuses across South East London.
