About the role:

At King’s,Strategy 2030 sets outbold ambitions to increase opportunities for our alumni tocontributeand we’re looking for a skilled Alumni Communities Officer to develop and deliver King’s global alumni networks programme, cultivating meaningful relationships with some of our most committed alumni volunteers. As we launch our Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement Campaign in 2027, the Alumni Communities Officer will deliver opportunities that foster a sense of connection and belonging within our global alumni community at this exciting time for the university.

As Alumni Communities Officer, you will lead on all aspects of the volunteer networks programme, overseeing the journey from volunteer recruitment and committee management to event support and promotion of activity, with a key focus around our Campaign launch.

Reporting to the Senior Alumni Manager (Volunteering), you will work with KCL Alumni Associations and International Alumni Leaders to ensure their activity supports with King’s goals, as well as manage initiatives such as the Alumni Leader Forum and Global Day of Service. You will also work closely with the Senior Alumni Manager (Volunteering) to project manage Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement’s international trips across the year.

This is a full-time post, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 December 2027. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in alumni relations, in higher education, and/or a membership organisation or charity.
  • Significant knowledge of and experience in successful project and event management.
  • Experience of volunteer management and stewardship, ideally through community engagement programmes.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders, demonstrating tact and negotiating sensitively, building networks and shared goals.
  • Proven experience of delivering services based on colleague and customer feedback, understanding their needs and expectations to tailor future planning.
  • Able to set objectives, manage budgets, achieve ambitious KPIs and robustly evaluate activities against their stated aims and budgets.
  • Ability to prioritise and to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of digital engagement tools such as webinars and/or online community platforms.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics or a similar relationship management database.
  • Strong cultural competency with experience of working with individuals from different backgrounds and international audiences.
  • Experience of managing global volunteer networks to support institutional goals.
  • Experience and awareness of how engagement feeds a pipeline to philanthropy.
  • £39,076 to £43,909 per annum inclusive of London Weighting Allowance
