About us:

This Lectureship is an exciting opportunity for an academic clinical psychologist with educational experience who wishes to develop their career within the areas of supporting trainees' development of clinical competence as a clinical tutor, but also with roles as an Academic Tutor and evaluating other areas of trainee competence.

This is a part-time position based at the Denmark Hill Campus (0.5 FTE). Education and training are priorities within the Department of Psychology and this clinical lecturer post will form part of the DClinPsy Programme team within the department. You will bring a strong commitment to delivering high-quality training and teaching, alongside an active interest in enhancing QA and governance across the educational aspects of the Programme.

About the role:

This lectureship offers an exciting opportunity for an academic clinical psychologist seeking to develop their leadership in education and training, through the DClinPsy programme at the IoPPN, KCL. The post is a part-time (0.5 FTE) role is to primarily work within the area of the programme related to the trainees' development of clinical competence, whilst evaluating and supporting supervisors and clinical placements.

You will work in aspects of quality assurance (QA) to deliver high-quality training and experience for trainees on clinical placements ensuring they meet the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), British Psychological Society’s (BPS) requirements for clinical psychology training and KCL internal QA processes and regulations.

You will act as an Academic Tutor for an allocated group of trainees, supporting their progress and helping align these processes within the programme team and with the wider KCL provision. You will assess trainee competence and review current assessments of competence, developing novel assessments of clinical competence, particularly in vivo work, where required.

Mondays and Fridays are key days for teaching and assessment on the programme, and preferably the post holder would be available to work on at least one of these two days.

About you:

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy or equivalent).
  • Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC and post-qualification clinical experience, working under supervision.
  • Experience of supervising trainees (DClinPsy or those at similar level e.g. Talking Therapies) in NHS roles and/or co-supervisor role for PGRs in education-related areas.
  • Effective performance of leading or a significant role in supporting academic administrative duties e.g. module leadership or development, curriculum stream leadership, leading a programme initiative such as selection, accreditation pathway or Expert by Experience input etc.
  • Innovative and effective teaching/training, including approaches to assessment.
  • Experience of role of student support such as Personal Tutoring and/or Clinical Advising.
  • Fellowship of the HEA or on track to receive a Fellowship in the next year or two or relevant qualification in education.
Desirable criteria
  • Dissemination of teaching innovations and initiatives at departmental level, or through publication, conferences or through other HEIs or professional groups.
  • Presentations at UK HEIs, or national conferences or Faculty and School teaching awards.
  • Evidence of engagement with research or scholarship in education, (e.g. evaluating teaching practice, assessment processes, curriculum development), and using findings to inform educational enhancement.
  • Level 2 BABCP accreditation or AFSP Intermediate level accreditation

£65,091 to £76,691 per annum pro rata, including London Weighting Allowance
