SEMH Behaviour Mentor – Secondary / Alternative Provision – Barking & Dagenham £105–£120 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis Education is looking for a confident Behaviour Mentor to support secondary-aged pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour and emotional regulation needs in Barking & Dagenham. Schools are increasingly considering candidates from youth work, mentoring, PRUs, alternative provision and behaviour support, providing they can establish relationships while maintaining strong boundaries. Current East London vacancies repeatedly emphasise de-escalation, emotional regulation and consistent adult relationships.
This role woul d particularly suit someone with the personality to command respect without being confrontational.
- Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Working 1:1 and with small groups
- Helping students regulate and return to learning following incidents
- Identifying triggers and preventing escalation
- Supporting pupils who may have experienced exclusion or disrupted education
- Reinforcing positive behaviour and clear expectations
- Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and behaviour leads
- Experience with in education, youth work, mentoring, PRU/AP, care or behaviour support
- Strong behaviour-management instincts
- Confident dealing with challenging situations
- Calm and consistent rather than confrontational
- Able to build trust with teenagers
- Reliable and available full-time
