Newham Council is working to ensure there is greater investment in public spaces and more opportunities for young people. This includes leading a landmark project to transform the historic Canning Town Old Library into Newham Heritage Centre, the borough’s newest cultural hub.
When construction work is completed, the building will contain an inspiring new exhibition space, reading room and bespoke archive storage, digital suite, learning space, venue hire space and a cafe. This ambitious project, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will establish a new cultural destination for the borough and connect people who are living, working and studying in Newham.
About The JobWe are seeking a Learning & Engagement Apprentice to join Newham Heritage Centre's team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about heritage, culture and community engagement. The role will involve working closely with people, responding to visitor needs and supporting the delivery of our ambitious creative activity programme. The Learning & Engagement Apprentice will have the unique opportunity get ‘hands-on’ practical experience, working on a range of community and visitor focused activities at Newham Heritage Centre's.
They will work behind the scenes as we prepare for Newham Heritage Centre's opening as well as have a front facing role in visitor and participant activities after opening.

There is no degree or university requirement for this position.
- 18 month fixed-term contract with Newham Council.
