Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: South East London (across hospital education sites in Denmark Hill, Beckenham and Camberwell)

Start Date: 5 October 2026

Contract Type: Long-term supply, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)

Hours: 8.30am to 4.45pm

Pay: 125 per day PAYE

SANZA Teaching Agency is working in partnership with a specialist hospital school supporting children and young people aged 11 to 16 who are receiving inpatient or day-patient care. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to play a vital role in ensuring pupils continue to access high-quality education during their medical treatment.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support students across a range of educational settings, including classrooms, small-group learning environments and, where required, bedside learning sessions under the direction of qualified teaching staff.

This specialist provision is dedicated to supporting young people who require education alongside medical care. Staff work collaboratively to promote academic progress, wellbeing and successful reintegration into mainstream education where appropriate.

This Higher Level Teaching Assistant position offers a unique opportunity to support pupils with a range of educational and additional needs while making a meaningful impact on their learning journey.

• Support pupils individually and in small groups under the direction of teachers.
• Deliver planned learning activities and interventions.
• Provide educational support within classrooms and, where appropriate, bedside settings.
• Assist pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Promote positive engagement, wellbeing and participation in learning.
• Maintain learning resources and support the organisation of teaching environments.
• Contribute to monitoring pupil progress and achievement.

To be considered for this role, you should have:

• Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
• HLTA status or the ability to demonstrate skills and experience consistent with HLTA-level responsibilities.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A proactive, resilient and positive approach to supporting young people.
• Confidence working independently and using initiative when required.

The pay rate for this role starts at 125 per day PAYE
