JOB TITLE:

Sixth Form Learning Mentor

REPORTS TO:

Deputy Head of Sixth Form

HOURS:

35 hours per week 8:00am to 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)

Key Purpose of Role:

To work with Sixth Form students supporting them with their learning and maximise their chance of success at post-16 study. To work with the staff responsible for leading the Sixth Form to help them develop students' academic and wider skills. To act as a role model and mentor students, implementing and monitoring strategies to raise aspirations and attainment in students and encourage progression to higher education and beyond.

To work with the Sixth Form leadership team to ensure excellent pastoral support. To support students with their future pathway planning for University, Apprenticeships or work.
To support students in their day to day organisation and routines
To supervise the Sixth Form Study Centre
To manage standards and environment of the Sixth Form Centre
To mentor and support individual students or groups of students towards their academic and aspirational goals.
To undertake administrative duties

Duties:

Working with Sixth Form students
- To encourage the development of academic skills such as time management, independent learning, revision techniques and research skills through individual and group activity. To work with underperforming students under the guidance of the Sixth Form leadership team to help them direct their time and activities
- To advise students on how to access advice and guidance; to enable them to make informed choices about post-18 education options
- To contribute to the UCAS quality assurance system to ensure that a high standard of applications are being produced by applicants, including checking draft personal statements and giving appropriate feedback
- To deliver relevant UCAS support to provide students with the knowledge to confidently navigate and access resources on the UCAS website and applying to university / deliver support for apprenticeship courses
- To support with, and monitor students’ engagement with all elements of their Northwood Diploma including:
  - Wider reading & intellectual curiosity (in collaboration with teaching and library staff)
  - securing work experience placements and additional enrichment opportunities
  - Community service (inside and/or outside of school)
- Communicating with tutors, parents and class teachers about students' wellbeing and attendance - communicating all issues arising to the HoS and DHoS.
- To support students in their day to day organisation and routines
- Mentor students when directed
- Co-ordinate the organisation and monitoring of rewards and sanctions in Sixth Form (including office hours, reports and rewards/ privileges)
- Monitor and liaise with form tutors on school projects such as NWD and other leadership opportunities.
Supervision of the Sixth Form Study Centre
- To develop good relationships with all students by establishing a positive, professional presence within the Sixth Form and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- To oversee the running of the supervised Sixth Form study centre. This will involve supporting students with independent study, UCAS applications and wider reading
- To ensure the sixth form study is a quiet, productive and purposeful environment.

Managing standards and the learning environment of the Sixth Form Study Centre
- To have and uphold high expectations of how students use and work in the Study Centre in order to maintain a culture of good work ethic and a positive learning environment.
