An enthusiastic and engaging teacher is required to join one of our leading departments in the Humanities and/or Social Sciences.

The successful candidate will be, above all, passionate about their relevant subject areas. They will be excited about sharing their subject passion with our students and ready to make a mark on our vibrant school community through their teaching.

The successful candidate will be required to teach Psychology A Level, and would ideally be able to deliver Key Stage 3 Philosophy, Religion and Ethics alongside.

This role is available from 0.4 (two days) to 0.6 (three days), depending on the subject offering of the successful candidate. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter, alongside the subjects you can offer. The working days required are Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday.

Psychology is one of our most popular A Level choices, with many students pursuing the subject beyond Sixth Form. Students follow the AQA Specification

A. Academic standards in Psychology are high, with most students expected to achieve A* - C in the A level examinations. The Department has a strong focus on the monitoring and tracking process to ensure there is support for students to achieve the highest grades of which they are capable. The department is well-resourced and facilities include interactive whiteboards, educational videos, interactive resource booklets and a wide variety of online platforms, such as Up Learn, all used to promote students’ independent learning.

Philosophy, Religion and Ethics is a highly regarded subject within the school and has an excellent academic reputation. At Key Stage 3 students use a worldviews approach to study the six major world religions and explore philosophical and moral issues related to life in the twenty-first century. The subject is a popular subject at GCSE and A Level and girls achieve impressive results.

We follow the AQA specification at GCSE and OCR at A Level. The department runs an annual Philosothon competition with other local schools and invites in guest speakers and judges, providing a great opportunity to improve discussion and debate skills and to develop new ideas. The department also hosts an Interfaith event allowing students to explore a diversity of beliefs in our community.

The subject has a broad reach across the whole school, and PRE teachers frequently collaborate with other departments. The department is also responsible for teaching the Sixth Form PPE Extend course, preparing students for applications to university in this subject.
