Graduate/Gap Year Sport Assistant – 4 January 2027 until 9 July 2027 (possibly longer)

The role of a Graduate/Gap Year Sport Assistant (Rugby, Cricket, Tennis and Swimming) at Harrodian is hugely rewarding and will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to become widely involved in the busy life of our exciting school. The Sport Assistant position is to support teachers within the PE & Games department with a wide range of sport-related practical and administrative duties, including leading small and1:1groups, managing equipment and classroom preparation, and modeling the School’sbehavioural code of conduct.
There will also be opportunities to work on Saturdays to assist with fixtures and tournaments (paid as additional hours). Needless to say, you will not be the type to shy away from being outside in inclement weather!
If not already held, the Sport Assistant will be required to complete Level 1 Coaching and Umpiring qualifications in Rugby, Cricket and/or Tennis
, as well as a
Lifeguarding qualification for the Summer Term. The Spring Term focuses on Rugby, with Swimming, Cricket and Athletics offered in the Summer Term. It is expected that a Gap Year/Graduate Sport Assistant will perform Duties, such as playground and lunch queue supervision, and be willing to contribute to the School’s Co-curricular programme, including attendance on day and residential tripssuch as Bushcraft, Coastal and PGL, during term-time
, if required.
We are ideally looking for applicants who can start work on 4th January 2027 and can commit for the remainder of the academic year until 9th July 2027
. If they can also commit for 2027-28, we would consider extending this contract for a further academic year.
Applicants should be enthusiastic individuals possessing drive, energy and commitment. They should have a presence that engenders confidence and respect from children, colleagues and parents. They should also be/have:
- Team focused; able to understand what is required and to respond promptly to support our staff and pupils;
- Good organisational and ICT skills;
- Reliable and punctual;
- Able and willing to undertake additional duties as part of the whole school team.
- Committed to the highest level of educational, pastoral care and safeguarding for our pupils.
This is a full-time, term time plus staff training days position. Working days and hours are:
Mondays to Fridays 08:00-17:00 during term time plus 1 remaining Staff Training Day, held at the start of the Spring term.
This is a paid position and the salary will be compliant with the national minimum wage, paid on the basis of 35.2 working weeks. Saturday Sport will be paid at an enhanced hourly rate.
