Although some candidates may travel further afield, we require all applicants to have a reasonable commuting distance to London Bridge.

Responsibility involves conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) at various sites – hospitals, retail outlets, schools, offices, etc. Duties include testing appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, informing users of results, and recommending replacements or repairs. Record findings in reports or electronic systems and provide completion certificates and checklists.

All equipment must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations. Candidates must have transport or suitable means to get to work.

A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer

As a PAT engineer, no two days are the same. A day begins with packing tools and equipment into the van before heading to the first job.

At each site you will test a range of appliances, explain results to users and document findings. You may be working alone or part of a team. Completing paperwork such as reports and certificates is essential.

Throughout the day you will move from location to location; organization and accurate testing are vital.

This role requires skill, experience and patience. It is physically and mentally demanding but offers variety and opportunities for advancement.

If you think you have what it takes to be a PAT tester, please get in touch – we look forward to hearing from you!
