A London Local Authority is recruiting for an experienced Traffic Project Engineer to lead and manage a programme of highways capital projects from detailed design through to implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a portfolio of highways capital projects, ensuring effective project management, high-quality design, and robust contractor performance during delivery.
Provide expert technical input into contract specifications, commissioning, tendering processes, and ongoing contractor management.
Act as Project Sponsor and ensure full compliance with the Council’s Road Safety Audit process.
Fulfil the duties of Principal Designer in accordance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
Prepare, monitor, and manage project and programme budgets, ensuring effective financial control.
Manage and oversee a wide range of contractors, consultants, and temporary staff, including the Council’s term highways contractor.
Represent the Council at senior-level forums and work closely with local communities and residents’ groups to support service development, public engagement, and issue resolution.
Essential Requirements:

Proven experience delivering highways capital projects within a Local Authority setting.
Strong project and programme management skills, including contractor and financial management.
Sound knowledge of Road Safety Audits and CDM Regulations.
Ability to operate confidently at a senior stakeholder level
