Job Type: Full-time
About Isembard:Isembard is on a mission to forge industrial acceleration. We do that by enabling faster and cheaper products to be made for critical industries. We use the latest machine tools alongside our own proprietary software and robotics to improve the experience of getting products manufactured. The parts that we make will be directly used in critical industries such as aerospace, defence and energy.
We are seeking a highly skilled Deployed Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will bridge the gap between design and production, working directly with customers and franchisees to understand their requirements and translating them into manufacturable solutions. You will leverage your deep understanding of CAD and design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimise part designs for efficient production and identify opportunities for process optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:- Partner with customers to understand their needs, embedding mechanical engineering principles to design precision components optimized for manufacturability.
- Support business development outreach efforts by researching prospects, coordinating communications, and preparing materials, while assisting with full sales lifecycle activities such as lead qualification, proposal development, and follow-up as needed.
- Use CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) to create customer‑driven designs that align with manufacturing processes and material properties.
- Lead rapid prototyping efforts (e.g., CNC machining, 3D printing, laser cutting), managing project timelines to deliver tailored solutions that meet customer specifications.
- Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to streamline processes, optimizing cost, quality, and production efficiency for customer projects.
- Manage 3‑5 projects concurrently from concept to completion, coordinating with customers and internal teams to ensure on‑time delivery and alignment with requirements.
- Troubleshoot design, material, or prototyping challenges, implementing process improvements to meet customer timelines and manufacturability goals.
- Collaborate with a small, agile team to drive innovation, iterate on customer‑focused projects, and enhance project workflows.
- Document designs, processes, and project plans to support scalability, repeatability, and consistent delivery for customer solutions.
- Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies using time studies, value‑stream mapping, and machine utilisation analysis.
- Collaborate with our software and robotics teams to integrate digital data capture and continuous feedback loops into shopfloor operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering or scientific field.
- Experience in engineering, with a focus on customer‑facing design, process optimisation, or project management.
- Proficiency in CAD (e.g., Solid Works) for designing precision components.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, and manufacturability.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, coordinate with stakeholders, and embed engineering expertise in customer interactions to deliver practical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate technical solutions and project updates to customers and cross‑functional teams.
- Thrives in a fast‑paced, startup environment with a proactive, process‑driven mindset.
Skills:
- Expertise in material science or mechanical engineering applications, particularly in selecting materials and methods to enhance product performance and manufacturability.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques, such as CNC machining, 3D printing or laser cutting, and managing associated project timelines.
- Familiarity with process optimisation, Lean Manufacturing, or quality control methods to improve project outcomes and customer deliverables.
- Proven success in customer‑facing project management, delivering manufacturable designs on time and within scope.
- Knowledge of project management tools or methodologies to streamline workflows and ensure successful project execution.
- Ability to analyse production data and identify efficiency or quality improvement opportunities.
- Competitive salary, equity and benefits package
- Opportunity to work with cutting‑edge manufacturing technology at a high‑energy startup
- Work directly with customers to solve complex challenges through mechanical engineering and robust project management.
- Help customers and franchisees improve productivity and operational performance through hands‑on process optimisation.
- Operate in our state‑of‑the‑art factory, equipped with advanced tools and a collaborative team.
- Grow with us—your contributions in process and project management will directly influence our rapidly scaling company.
