About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Civil or Structural Engineer to join our team, specialising in the conservation, remediation and structural integrity of heritage and listed building facades across London. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in masonry facades, particularly Portland Stone and other traditional materials used in historic architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structural surveys and assessments of heritage and listed building facades, focusing on stone and masonry. Surveys will typically be undertaken from MEWPs and some will be overnight
. - Develop and deliver repair, strengthening, and conservation strategies in line with best practice and statutory requirements.
- Prepare detailed technical survey reports, specifications, and sketches for remedial works.
- Collaborate with clients, project managers, building surveyors, conservation officers, and contractors to ensure sensitive and compliant interventions.
- Provide guidance on structural safety, and deterioration mechanisms of historic materials.
- Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and heritage conservation guidelines where applicable.
- Assist in managing the projects, including site inspections and quality assurance.
Required Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with ICE or IStruct
E, or working towards chartership within 12 months. - Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 8- years’ experience in structural engineering, with experience of heritage and/or listed building facades.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Portland Stone, natural stone masonry, and traditional facade construction techniques.
- Familiarity with UK Building Regulations, British Standards (BS 6399, BS 8110), Eurocodes, and heritage conservation guidelines.
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
- Proficiency in appropriate software including Word, Excel and Bluebeam Revu.
- Knowledge of deterioration mechanisms in stone.
- Experience with façade retention or strengthening projects.
- Ideally possess suitable Safety Harness & Inspection Training Certification for use in MEWPs albeit training can be provided.
