We are seeking a proactive and driven HSSE Advisor with approximately 3 years’ experience to support our clients HSSE function within the rail industry. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to progress their career in Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) management within a safety-critical and fast-paced environment.
Working closely with the Head of HSSE and operational teams, you will play a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of HSSE systems across rail projects, helping to drive compliance, best practice, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Support the implementation and ongoing management of HSSE policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety tours across rail and infrastructure projects.
- Assist in developing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safe systems of work.
- Support accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including reporting and root cause analysis.
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings.
- Assist with environmental management, waste control, and sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with legislation, rail industry standards, and client requirements.
- Maintain HSSE records, reports, and performance metrics.
- Support emergency planning, drills, and response procedures.
- Work closely with operational teams to promote a positive safety culture.
- Around 3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety / HSSE role, ideally within rail, construction, or infrastructure.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Good working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and industry best practice.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organised, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
- Rail industry experience and knowledge of Network Rail standards.
- IEMA or environmental management qualification.
- Experience with audits, inspections, and investigations.
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
