Process Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Systems Engineer, Environmental Engineer
Overview
My client is a venture-backed industrial materials company developing a next-generation, low emissions alternative to conventional and widely used industrial products. The technology is progressing from pilot validation into demonstration. This role is central to translating a novel process into a scalable, operable industrial system. You will lead process engineering from early design through construction and commissioning, ensuring the technology can be delivered safely, efficiently, and at commercial scale.
The RoleAs Senior Process Engineer, you will take ownership of process design and scale-up for a new industrial activation process. Working alongside a wider team, you will define how the process is engineered, validated, and implemented in real operating environments.
The role spans early-stage development through to capital delivery, including front-end engineering, pilot optimisation, detailed design support, and site commissioning. You will act as the technical authority for process engineering as the system advances from pilot to demonstration and beyond.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and own process design deliverables including process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and equipment definitions across multiple project phases.
- Build, review, and validate process calculations and models to support robust engineering decisions.
- Design, plan, and evaluate laboratory and pilot trials to reduce technical and scale-up risk.
- Provide process engineering leadership through installation, start-up, and commissioning activities.
- Lead or contribute to structured process risk assessments and safety studies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Act as the primary process engineering interface with suppliers, consultants, and project partners.
- Define technical requirements and manage scope boundaries with external stakeholders.
- Promote energy-efficient, low-impact, and maintainable process design choices.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technical staff.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and ways of working.
- Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience in industrial process development, design, and scale-up.
- Strong grounding in process calculations, equipment selection, and safety engineering.
- Comfortable owning deliverables in small, fast-moving project teams.
- Practical, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to move between analysis and execution.
- Confident communicator with engineers, suppliers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Scaling technologies from laboratory or pilot environments to demonstration or commercial operation.
- Experience in heavy-industry settings such as metals, high-temperature processes, or refractory systems.
