Responsibilities

  • Verify that all mechanical works comply with approved drawings, specifications, building regulations, British/European/International standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Review and approve (or recommend) contractor technical submittals, method statements, material samples, shop drawings, and as-built documentation related to mechanical services.
  • Identify, document, and resolve site technical queries, design clarifications, and non-conformances promptly; coordinate with the design office to issue instructions or variations as needed.
  • Witness key testing and commissioning activities and verify system performance against design intent and energy targets.
  • Manage progress monitoring for mechanical packages, attend coordination and progress meetings, and contribute to overall project reporting.
  • Liaise effectively with main contractors, M&E subcontractors, client representatives, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project delivery and minimize delays or disputes.
  • Ensure robust record-keeping, including photographic evidence, test certificates, and handover documentation to support final certification and client O&M manuals.
  • Promote and uphold the consultancy's commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design principles on site.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Resident Engineer, Clerk of Works, or Site Engineer with a strong focus on mechanical building services installation/commissioning.
  • Previous consultancy or design office background, providing insight into design intent and coordination challenges.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building controls systems in modern commercial/residential buildings.
  • Familiarity with UK/international building regulations, standards, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, contract administration, and change/variation management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence contractors and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
