Decommissioning Operative

NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others.

This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

• Review skill levels and update them as necessary to competently carry out the tasks required of a Decommissioning Operative. This will include:
• Basic Health and Safety Training
• Introduction to Radiation Protection / Safety Practices
• Additional training requirements specific to a particular role or site.

• Carry out tasks as required for specific decommissioning projects, including:
• Plant and equipment size reduction
• Plant and equipment decontamination
• Support to HP monitors during waste packaging and processing.
• Other work areas could involve plant operations, installation and support to commissioning.
• Complete and maintain as necessary all associated records and documentation.

• Contribute to the development of business by internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence.

Candidates must be willing to travel and work away from home as and when required. Please only apply if you are able to travel nationwide.

• GCSE at ‘C’ grade or above in English, Maths and in Science or technical subject - Desirable
• Completion of further/higher education in a related field - Desirable
• Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required

• Familiar with site work environments - Essential
• Work experience within decommissioning, engineering, science or construction environment - Desirable
• Aware of radiological issues and protocols for safe working - Desirable
• Familiar with working on nuclear licensed site or similar with Specific Hazards/Operations - Desirable

• Able to read and write messages, interpret and carry instruction - Essential
• Maintain simple records and documents in a readable format - Essential
• Utilisation of technical or scientific data - Essential
• Proven ability to organise and coordinate own work to time schedules - Desirable
• Knowledge of ISO 9001/14001 & 45001 - Desirable
