South London About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead the delivery of complex, large-scale data centre projects across the UK and internationally. This is a senior leadership role, ideal for someone with deep technical expertise in mission‑critical environments and a passion for innovation, sustainability, and high‑performance design. You will play a key role in shaping electrical design strategies for hyperscale and colocation data centres, ensuring solutions are resilient, efficient, and future‑ready.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the electrical design delivery of large-scale data centre projects (new build and upgrades)
- Develop and oversee LV & HV power distribution systems
, including UPS, generators, and redundancy strategies (N+1, 2N, etc.) - Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes
- Carry out peer reviews
, technical approvals, and ensure compliance with relevant standards - Drive innovation in energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience
- Support business development through technical input and client engagement
- Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership
- Extensive experience delivering mission‑critical/data centre projects
- Strong knowledge of:
- Power distribution systems (HV/LV)
- Standby power systems (diesel generators, battery storage, UPS)
- Electrical resilience standards in critical environments
- Proficiency with industry software (e.g., ETAP, Amtech, Dialux, Revit)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Experience working in a consultancy or engineering design environment
- Exposure to hyperscale data centre clients
- Experience with international projects and standards
- Understanding of sustainability frameworks and low‑carbon design
- Knowledge of digital engineering / BIM processes
