Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Greater London

Are you a System Safety Engineer, Safety Assurance Engineer, or Risk Engineer looking to work on one of the UK’s most high-profile rail infrastructure programmes? Do you have experience in rail systems safety, risk assessment, or major hazard industries such as aviation, defence, nuclear, or transportation infrastructure?

Salary: Birmingham circa up to £65,000 package / London circa £70,000 package including Flex Fund
Location: Birmingham or London, 3 days in the office per week and remainder from home

This is an opportunity to join a specialist Systems Safety team supporting the delivery of major civils, stations, and rail systems packages on a nationally significant rail infrastructure programme. As a System Safety Interface Engineer, you will work closely with contractors, engineering teams, and stakeholders to assure operational railway safety activities, review risk assessments, and support robust system safety across complex engineering interfaces.

The role will initially focus on civils contracts before expanding into stations and rail systems as the programme develops, offering excellent long‑term career progression and broad technical exposure. This is not a traditional Health & Safety role focused on construction safety. Instead, the focus is on operational system safety and engineering risk across major railway infrastructure and systems.

Essential experience
  • Experience undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk assessments
  • Knowledge of system safety methodologies and hazard analysis techniques
  • Experience with HAZOP, Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, or similar risk assessment techniques
  • Strong understanding of engineering risk within complex systems
  • Ability to review and challenge technical safety documentation
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Desirable experience
  • Common Safety Method for Risk Assessment (CSM-RA)
  • Experience working with regulators or Assessment Bodies (ASBO)
  • Experience on major rail or infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of systems integration and operational railway safety
Why Apply

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Systems Safety & Interoperability function delivering one of the UK’s largest and most technically complex infrastructure programmes.
You will gain exposure across civils, stations, and rail systems while working alongside experienced safety and systems engineering professionals in a role offering genuine long‑term progression.
