About the Role

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with over 200,000 vehicles per day and is a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, requiring high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30‑year contract until 2039. The Senior Pavement Engineer will provide technical design input, propose and detail design solutions for upcoming highways pavement renewal schemes around the CPS (M25) network, and will have complete design ownership on projects, leading and directing the design outcome of schemes, completing detailed design, and following through practical construction onsite across the M25 network.

The role requires efficient design coordination, reviewing documentation from framework consultants, managing design workload in line with delivery priorities and road space booking programme, and collaborating closely with Asset and Project Management teams and other designers responsible for the relevant assets. The focus is on cost‑effective design solutions, delivering agreed outcomes within programme and budget, and meeting CPS quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Traffic Management Plans, Diversion Routes and organise Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders with Highways England and Local Councils.

  • Work with the Project Manager to lead the internal Gateway reviews during the design phase, ensuring timely sign‑off at each Gateway.
  • Manage and monitor all resources (internal and external) to deliver to budget and programme.
  • Review and check deliverables from internal and external designers to ensure designs are complete, compliant and meet the brief prior to submission to National Highways through the Review Process.
  • Report to the Design lead, Principal Engineer and Project Manager on performance against budget and programme.
  • Live the Connect Plus Services Values (One team, Customer focus, Respect, Excellence, Trust).
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
  • Technically accountable for the design solutions, engaging with method engineering reviews to drive innovative solutions that can be safely installed and are best for the asset need.
  • Support the delivery of the business' sustainability activities.
  • Other areas of work:
    • Assist Engineers in carrying out site surveys on the network.
    • Seek innovation and continual improvement in the delivery of schemes and techniques used in design and construction.
    • Take part in detailed design workshops and provide a holistic viewpoint when Principal Designer scheme reviews are undertaken.
    • Liaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required – such as Highway Authorities, Planning Authorities and statutory undertakers.
    • Assist in identifying and presenting schemes that need to be included in the 5 Year Asset Management Renewals Programme.
