Building Control Surveyor – Safety by Design

Department: Safety by Design

Location: London

As a Building Control Surveyor at Foster + Partners, you will play a pivotal role in shaping safe, compliant, and high‑performing design outcomes by advising on UK Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and associated legislation across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working within our multidisciplinary Safety by Design team, you will collaborate with world‑leading architects and engineers to embed best practice, influence design decisions, and support the delivery of innovative projects both in the UK and internationally.

This

role is ideal if you want to:
  • Influence design excellence by embedding Building Regulations compliance from concept through to delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering, and specialist disciplines.
  • Take on a key advisory role supporting Principal Designer duties on high‑profile UK projects.
  • Shape best practice and contribute to evolving safety and compliance strategies.
  • Work on complex, global projects while applying UK regulatory expertise.
  • Share knowledge by delivering guidance and training to design teams.
What you will bring to the team:
  • Strong experience delivering Building Control or consultancy services within design and construction with a proactive, solution‑focused mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • Deep understanding of UK Building Regulations, Approved Documents, legislation and compliance processes.
  • Confidence working with a range of stakeholders, including clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Chartered membership with CABE, CIOB or RICS.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and design/construction methodologies.
  • A Registered Building Inspector (RBI), Class 3H registration is preferred.
  • Degree in architecture, engineering or related field (desirable).
