Technical Strategy Lead - eVTOL

Location: London, UK

Salary: £72,000 to £75,000 Dependent on experience

Contract Type: Full Time Permanent

Security Level: CTC

Summary: Shape the future of aviation by leading the safe integration of eVTOL aircraft into the UK aviation system. The role involves managing a multidisciplinary team, delivering a coordinated regulatory programme, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop progressive regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a small team of eVTOL technical specialists and a broader cross‑functional team of subject matter experts.
  • Deliver the eVTOL regulatory programme across the Safety and Airspace Regulation Group, coordinating work with experts and leading engagement with Government (DfT) as programme sponsor.
  • Consider how eVTOL introduction supports or impacts other CAA priorities, including Net Zero and airspace modernisation; set programme direction and develop projects and work packages.
  • Work across Technical Strategy and industry teams to test, trial new technologies and develop regulatory options.
  • Lead the team in developing and implementing eVTOL policy, researching international regulation and industry standards.
  • Develop roadmaps for eVTOL development and outline required regulatory, policy and capability enhancements.
  • Provide input into the legislative framework to progress regulatory changes enabling safe market entry of eVTOL technologies.
  • Develop resource and prioritisation estimates to secure appropriate CAA involvement.
  • Build internal networks across CAA business areas and external networks with government, regulators and industry bodies.
  • Engage internationally with other National Aviation Authorities to harmonise approaches and advocate for UK interests.

  • Broad experience in regulation within aviation (airspace, airworthiness, air traffic management, flight operations, UAS, aviation security, or consumer protection) or another safety‑critical industry.
  • Strong people leadership, motivating diverse teams to high performance.
  • Creates an inclusive, collaborative culture fostering trust and accountability.
  • Provides clear direction and coaching while supporting colleague growth to achieve organisational goals.
  • Broad experience with innovation and technology trends shaping aviation (e.g., eVTOL, AI, digitisation, automation, RPAS, UTM, UAM, electrification, battery technologies).
Travel

Some travel between CAA offices and external sites across the UK and occasional international travel may be required.

Additional Information

Many CAA appointments require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. Post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate clearance level. To be vetted, you must have the right to work in the UK for a reasonable period (typically 3 years).
