Our client Scottish Power Renewables are looking for a Coastal Engineer to join them on an initial contract basis, based in either London or Glasgow. There would be an expectation to be in the office once a month but outside of that it could be WFH. Ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Engineer with experience of Coastal Engineering projects and the design of coastal defences.

The initial contract duration is until 31st Dec 2026, with scope of extension to October 2028. This will be Inside IR35, with Umbrella and PAYE options available.

The role sits within the East Anglia Three Project under the Coastal Protection Package. This package is responsible for assessment of the coastal erosion risk at the export cable landfall and, where necessary, defining and implementing engineering solutions to eliminate/mitigate the risk.
The Coastal Engineer role is to support the Package Manager and the wider engineering team with delivery of the scope on technical aspects across all project stages, with a focus on coastal engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to support the Package with both technical delivery and general project execution tasks required for delivery of the scope.
This role offers an opportunity to be directly involved in the delivery of a major offshore renewable energy project, contributing to the design and implementation of coastal protection measures that ensure the long‑term integrity of critical infrastructure.
Key Tasks- Support the package manager and the other package engineers on coastal engineering aspects, including but not limited to identification and definition of requirements, preparation and review of documentation, technical coordination and management of contractors/consultants, liaison with the project team and corporate SPR support on engineering matters.
- Support to the Package Manager and package engineers in the management of the technical aspects of the package delivery.
- Undertake and lead technical tasks as directed by the Package Manager.
- Support the Package with coordination between stakeholders to ensure alignment on engineering solutions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of coastal defence solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction as appropriate.
- Support to the Package Manager with general project management tasks including risk management, reporting, and document control relevant for the delivery of the scope.
- Fluent in English.
- Educated to Degree level in civil engineering, coastal engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstratable postgraduate experience in coastal engineering projects, covering the design and assessment of coastal defences.
- A strong understanding of coastal processes.
- Familiarity with the different coastal modelling tools, functionality and limitations would be an advantage.
- Working towards chartership status in a relevant professional institution would be desirable.
- Familiar with coastal engineering standards, guidelines and best practices.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation associated with offshore/marine construction projects (e.g. CDM 2015) would be desirable.
- Competent in the use of MS Office and Electronic Document Management Systems.
- Ability to work independently and in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, to collaborate effectively with the wider project team including Third Parties, Contractors, Subcontractors and Contractors.
- Availability and flexibility to attend face‑to‑face meetings in SPR offices in London and Glasgow. Suitability to travel occasionally to meetings and site visits within the UK.
