What you'll be doing

As a Fire Engineer at the House of Commons, you will play a key role in providing specialist fire engineering advice and assurance across the Parliamentary Estate. Working within the Property and Asset Strategy team, you will support the delivery of safe, compliant and resilient fire safety solutions across one of the UK's most unique and historically significant working environments. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the long‑term protection and development of UK Parliament's buildings by working closely with project teams, consultants, designers and technical specialists.

You will support the review of fire safety designs, provide expert guidance on compliance and standards, and help ensure fire safety systems across the estate remain effective, sustainable and fit for the future.

This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with an expectation of you spending 40% of your time in the office.

Why Join us?
  • Generous annual leave starting at 30 days and increasing to 35 after one full working year.
  • Enrolment in the excellent Civil Service pension scheme with an average employer contribution of 27%.
  • Flexible working options that help you find a balance including enhanced maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption leave, caring leave and alternative working patterns.
What we're looking for
  • A degree-level qualification in Fire Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent), with membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and a commitment to developing towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • Experience applying fire engineering principles within the built environment, with the ability to continue developing technical knowledge across fire safety solutions, legislation and standards.
  • An interest in working with complex and historic buildings, applying analytical skills to assess risks and support practical, sustainable fire safety approaches.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, providing clear advice and collaborating to achieve shared outcomes.
