As a Safety Assurance Business Partner, you will support regional teams in managing fire safety, health & safety and building safety. Working closely with operations, major works, and other internal teams, you’ll play a critical part in driving a strong safety culture, reducing risk, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across all safety domains including building safety, fire safety, and health & safety.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver audit programmes both remotely and on-site, ensuring operational teams are supported in resolving any issues or actions raised.
- Monitor compliance across your region through regular reporting and intervene when necessary to mitigate risk.
- Provide expert guidance to operational teams, helping them manage and reduce building and safety‑related risks.
- Attend internal meetings and liaise with clients, enforcing authorities and third‑party consultants regarding safety case updates and remediation projects.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, conduct root cause analysis and lead lessons learnt reviews.
- Identify training needs for operational staff and work with Learning & Development to ensure delivery.
- Support operational and major works teams in ensuring regulatory compliance on fire and structural safety works for High‑Risk Buildings (HRBs).
- Assist with enforcement or contravention actions issued by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), Fire Service or Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
- Submit reports to relevant authorities (HSE, BSR, Fire Services) for notifiable or reportable incidents.
- Contribute to the development of safety‑related policies, procedures and guidance documents.
- Play an active role in First Port’s external accreditation processes.
- Support governance and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Participate in team meetings and support broader assurance projects as required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience in a safety‑focused role within Fire Safety, Building Safety or Health & Safety.
- Passionate about ensuring residential buildings are safe for all occupants.
- Strong working knowledge of the Building Safety Act, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Health & Safety at Work Act, and Landlord & Tenant Act.
- Professional membership or accreditation with relevant bodies (e.g., IOSH, IFSM, IFE, CIOB, RICS, TPI) — or willingness to work towards one.
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Fire Safety (desirable).
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Holds a full UK driving licence.
