Join AECOM’s Water team as a Senior Technical Lead to deliver flood risk modelling projects for the Environment Agency, National Grid and other water companies.
OverviewWe provide a challenging environment where you will work with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally, driving innovation in flood risk assessment and hydraulic modelling.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical direction to national project teams on complex flood risk projects.
- Lead or verify hydraulic modelling projects for flood alleviation schemes, risk assessments and flood mapping.
- Review or verify modelling technical reports, ensuring accuracy and uncertainty documentation.
- Participate in proposal development for innovative projects and large framework contracts.
- Mentor junior team members to support their professional development.
- Build and maintain relationships with external clients and internal technical units.
- Keep up to date with policy and technical developments, share best practice and adapt services accordingly.
- Deliver thought leadership and represent AECOM at conferences and events.
- Drive innovation within the team, including AI solution development.
- Contribute to the global community of hydraulic modelers.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in hydraulic and flood modelling software such as Flood Modeller, Info Works ICM, and/or TUFLOW.
- In‑depth knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments and scheme design.
- Established industry network, demonstrated through Linked In or presentation activities.
- Experience with hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH
2. - Strong leadership, communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM (preferred).
- GIS proficiency in QGIS, ArcGIS or Map Info.
- Experience with Flood Forecasting modelling (advantageous).
- Practical scripting knowledge (Python, Anaconda, Ruby) (advantageous).
