The SCADA and Network Inspection Technician is responsible for the inspection of Aurora Utilities electrical network assets and SCADA systems across the IDNO portfolio.
The role combines operational technology expertise with field-based inspection duties, ensuring that both physical network assets and remote monitoring systems operate safely, reliably and in compliance with regulatory and engineering standards.
The post-holder will support network visibility, fault response, asset condition monitoring, and the safe integration of new substations into both the physical network and SCADA environment.
2.Key Responsibilities Technical (SCADA & Systems)
- Install, commission and maintain SCADA RTUs and associated communications equipment at substations and field locations.
- Undertake FAT, SAT and integration testing for new connections and network extensions.
- Troubleshoot SCADA and communications issues including RTU, comms links, and data integrity faults.
- Support SCADA integration for newly adopted and constructed networks.
- Maintain SCADA documentation, configurations and system records.
- Carry out routine and reactive inspections of LV, HV and EHV network assets including substations, RMUs, transformers and associated equipment.
- Complete condition assessments, defect identification and reporting in line with Aurora asset management requirements.
- Ensure compliance with inspection schedules and statutory obligations.
- Record and update asset condition data, photographic evidence and inspection reports within company systems.
- Identify safety risks, deterioration or non-compliance issues and elevate appropriately.
- Support pre-adoption inspections and due diligence surveys for new networks.
- Experience working with SCADA systems, telemetry or operational technology in an electrical utility or similar environment.
- Practical experience of working on LV and HV distribution networks, including substations and switch gear.
- Strong understanding of network inspection, asset condition reporting and defect identification.
- Experience with RTUs, substation automation or industrial control systems.
- Strong fault-finding skills across both hardware and software environments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices within utility operations.
- ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Familiarity with IDNO or DNO operating environments.
- Experience of asset inspection regimes and condition-based maintenance.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Practical and methodical approach to both systems and field-based work.
- Clear communicator with the ability to engage with operational teams.
- Proactive attitude towards identifying and resolving issues.
- Willingness to travel and support out-of-hours operational requirements.
- The role involves frequent travel to substations, construction sites and operational assets.
- A full UK driving licence is required.
- Participation in standby or on-call rota will be required.
