Location: Greater London

HKA is seeking an ambitious and experienced Associate Technical Director or Technical Director to join our Forensic Technical Services team. The role involves supporting expert witnesses and participating in complex forensic disputes across the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive technical support to appointed experts on projects ranging from smaller expert commissions to large, complex and multi-disciplinary matters, including:
    • carrying out detailed structural modeling and precise calculation work
    • reviewing documents and drawings
    • attending site visits
    • conducting independent research in technical literature
  • Assist in the coordination of information and workflow
  • Assist with writing technical reports
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Structural team to provide integrated expert-level industry knowledge and expertise
  • Communicate in an advisory capacity to legal teams and clients on structural engineering related issues
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and assist the team with expanding client relationships
Requirements
  • MSc or MEng in Structural and/or Civil Engineering or other relevant field, recognised by the Engineering Council UK, with an excellent academic record
  • Chartered with the Engineering Council and a Member of either the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the latter preferred
  • At least ten years of experience in building structures design, including reinforced concrete and structural steel design
  • Technical excellence in structural analysis, including use of software and knowledge of British and European codes of practice
  • Excellent attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving skills, often thinking outside conventional or code‑based approaches
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in structural site inspections, refurbishment of existing buildings and design of remedial works solutions preferred
  • Experience of working on technical disputes or in forensic investigations is a plus
  • Experience of international large‑scale projects is a plus
  • Appetite to support identification, development and securing of consultancy fee‑earning work
