Joining Arup
Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
Our Geotechnics team brings together geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, rock mechanics specialists and tunnelling experts to solve some of the most complex ground engineering challenges across infrastructure, energy and mining projects. Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, we help clients develop safe, sustainable and innovative solutions for underground spaces, transportation networks, energy assets and major construction programmes.
The OpportunityWe are seeking a motivated Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our growing geotechnical and underground engineering team in London.
This is an opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects involving underground excavations, tunnels, shafts, caverns, rock slopes and rock foundations across the infrastructure, energy and mining sectors. You will collaborate with experienced specialists and contribute to projects ranging from early-stage feasibility studies and site investigations through to detailed design and construction support.
In this role, you will undertake rock mass characterisation and engineering assessments, develop rock engineering design parameters, perform numerical modelling analyses, and support the design of temporary and permanent ground support systems. You will also contribute to technical reports, engineering calculations and multidisciplinary design projects while gaining exposure to advanced rock engineering and underground construction techniques.
The role offers excellent opportunities for technical development, structured mentoring and support towards professional chartership or equivalent professional development pathway. You will work alongside leading specialists and develop expertise in rock engineering, engineering geology, numerical modelling and underground infrastructure design.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
