An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Streetworks Inspector to join a busy local authority highways team in South London on a part-time basis. This is a key role within the Highways Network Management team, where you will help protect the integrity of the highway network by inspecting street works, monitoring reinstatements, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Working across a diverse road network, you will play an important part in maintaining highway safety, minimising disruption, and ensuring works are carried out to the required standards.
The RoleAs the Streetworks Coordinator / Streetworks Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting live street works and completed reinstatements, ensuring all works comply with the Traffic Management Act 2004, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), Highways Act 1980, and associated Codes of Practice. Working closely with the wider Highways Network Management team, you will assess street works permits, monitor contractor performance, and represent the authority at meetings with utility companies and other stakeholders.
This is primarily a site-based role, therefore a full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle are essential.
- Carry out inspections of live street works and reinstatements across the borough.
- Ensure compliance with the Traffic Management Act 2004, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Highways Act 1980 and associated Codes of Practice.
- Undertake NRSWA inspection duties and record findings accurately.
- Assess and process street works permits using Street Manager or an equivalent permit management system.
- Identify defects and ensure appropriate remedial actions are undertaken.
- Liaise with utility companies, contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and improve network performance.
- Attend meetings representing the Highways Network Management team where required.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient and well-managed highway network.
- Previous experience in a Streetworks, Highways or Network Management role.
- Good working knowledge of the Traffic Management Act 2004, NRSWA 1991, Highways Act 1980, and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Experience using Street Manager or a similar street works permit management system.
- Experience carrying out street works inspections and monitoring reinstatements.
- Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload.
- A relevant qualification in highways, civil engineering or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle.
- Part-time opportunity (14.4 hours per week).
