About the role

The Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) is accountable for the Southern Regions renewals programme (CP7 & CP8) and through collective expertise will develop, mobilise and deliver a £9 billion programme between . The SRE is a fully integrated commercial partnership between AtkinsRéalis, Network Rail Works Delivery, Octavius, Volker Rail & Volker Fitzpatrick and through our collective strength, capability and knowledge will own and deliver the renewals programme within a collaborative model.

As Senior Project Engineer (Track), reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager, you ll have responsibility for leading technical assurance within Track Renewals. You will be joining a dynamic team delivering large volumes of highly diverse works, working collaboratively with stakeholders.

Your expertise as a railway track engineer will enable you to develop and assure solutions from concept remit to implementation and hand back and successfully manage them over their lifespan.

About the Roles

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced railway track engineer to undertake the management of a complex portfolio of mainline railway infrastructure work, either with S&C or PL, working in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team and a group of Framework Contractors.

There is an expectation of being able to work from an office location 3-days per week (in conjunction with the Southern Region Flexible Working Policy). The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with our framework contractors, which shall require regular depot visits to Tonbridge.

Key Accountabilities
  • Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and management of assets, compliant with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate.
  • Undertake assurance and verification reviews of design and/or construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors monitoring safety, environment and quality of design, construction, testing and commissioning and management systems is adequate.
  • Carry out the duties of Designated Project Engineer (DPE).
  • Manage, lead and develop a team of Project Engineers to support in these activities
  • Provide advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision. Manage the design and/or construction elements of relevant projects meet the requirements of current legislation, including Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
Your experience and skills

Essential

Relevant experience in railway track engineering, including knowledge of multi disciplinary interfaces.

Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level in an Engineering discipline

Knowledge of railway procedures and standards, especially /L2/RSE/02009 (Engineering Management for Projects) and /L2/TRK/2500 (Engineering Assurance Arrangements for the Design and Construction of Track)

Knowledge of the requirements of CDM and CSM Risk Evaluation and Assessment legislation.

Working towards professional membership of a relevant professional institution (ICE or PWI)

Knowledge of Track construction techniques
