Hybrid working, within this role enables a balance of 50% of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

As Track Engineer you will have a good understanding of Track Engineering, with a clear knowledge of TfL and wider industry theory and practice. This role supports the Senior Engineering Leader Track Technical Assurance in demonstrating that all staff undertaking maintenance or renewal of track assets are competent to do so and will work in collaboration with the Principal Engineer for Competence in setting and assuring the safety critical licensing framework.

The successful applicant will have a basic understanding of how a competence management system operates and the aptitude to develop into the role to become an approved assessor and internal quality assurer. Training, mentoring and development will be provided to the successful candidate in order to enable development to full approved assessor and internal quality assurer status.

• You will have experience of working within a complex railway system such as London Underground, with multiple asset interfaces and risks
• You will have a basic understanding of how the safety critical licence scheme for track operates
• You will deliver competence evaluations, safety critical assessments and verification of assessments/assessment practice for the workforce (once qualified and accredited)
• You will undertake technical reviews of contractor companies supplying hand back resource to TfL and will review their continued approval status once accredited to do so
• You will possess a sound knowledge of track engineering standards and the ability to interpret changes to standard and implement changes to assessment material accordingly.
• You will maintain the currency of your professional knowledge, in order to enable sharing of knowledge with colleagues, so as to contribute towards the strategic objective of demonstrating the workforce remain competent to carry out safety critical work on the track asset
• You will be an effective communicator at all levels within the organisation
• You will act as a role model representing Permanent Way Engineering, when engaging with candidates and suppliers through leading by example and demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development.
• You will monitor industry developments as appropriate to identify any adaptations or recommendations that are to be implemented to improve activities undertaken in your own area of work in order to continuously improve the competence management system.
